Collectionzz is a passion project that I poured my heart and soul into for many years, which is why I'm excited to showcase it here. Collectionzz is the ultimate testament to the power of user-centered design. Actively listening to user feedback completely transformed the project's direction, ultimately leading to a more successful outcome.
The frustration with the existing tools for sharing and acquiring collectibles sparked the creation of Collectionzz. The landscape for acquiring collectibles was at the time dominated by large auction houses, which was problematic for collectors for the following reasons:
• Pricing is less transparent
• No interaction between collectors
• Display and discovery are de-emphasized
• No daily auctions
To create a platform of significant utility to collectors and in doing so, build a commerce engine of significant size that disrupts the existing way that collectibles are sought, bought and sold.
The journey began with a simple web page and signup form for early access to CollectionCraze, a platform dedicated to collector-to-collector sharing of memorabilia. This enabled us to gauge potential user interest before investing significant resources in design, development and marketing. The strong level of demand helped make the decision to proceed full throttle.
The initial wave of early access registrants became the backbone of our user base. By keeping them informed and engaged throughout the development process, we fostered a strong community and gathered invaluable feedback that shaped our product iterations.
The MVP of Collectionzz offered a virtual "show and tell" experience, allowing collectors to share their passion for all types of memorabilia – from sports cards and sneakers to military and music collectibles.
Here's what our early access users had to say about Collectionzz:
"Dude, your website is fantastic...So fantastic that i’m intimidated to put s**t up there. No bull*h*t, i was blown away. Not just blown away by the private collections i saw... Blown away at the way its set up and presented. Take a bow brother” – Avid poster collector
“I checked out Collectionzz. I think you could have a major winner on your hands." – Owner of drum store and collector
"I love the idea, there’s a major need for something like that to be done right!" – Watch collector
"I’m in the process of building my collection and i’m excited by the opportunities offered. A virtual museum of stuff we own could be a priceless record of our collections for a variety of reasons, and not to mention the resource could be exceptional as a tool in finding items you never thought you would, or a trade you never felt possible" – Pearl Jam memorabilia collector
In 2017, Collectionzz underwent a strategic rebrand and relaunch. The new website boasted a fresh look and expanded functionality, including ecommerce, sharing, following, and collector messaging.
Fueled by user data, we discovered a fascinating trend: over 90% of our large active user base were music memorabilia collectors, with a significant portion focusing specifically on posters. This valuable insight prompted us to make an important pivot and to tailor Collectionzz to better serve this passionate community.
In 2020 the decision was made to produce posters for bands. This wasn't the greatest timing because just as we made this decision, the COVID pandemic hit and bands stopped touring. We decided to produce posters for iconic events in music history that never had a poster. One of our first posters was a commemorative poster for Elton John's 45th Anniversary of his iconic Dodger Stadium concerts.
While the pandemic impacted live music, we used the time strategically. By building strong relationships with licensing and merchandise companies, Collectionzz positioned itself as the go-to solution for tour posters when bands returned to the stage.
Following our success with live entertainment producers, Collectionzz identified a growing need. We strategically shifted or platform focus to prioritize the direct sale of concert posters, offering music fans a dedicated platform to acquire these coveted collectibles.
Collectionzz started as a casual conversation between two friends on a softball field – a testament to the power of a good idea and its potential to blossom into something much bigger.
Collectionzz has emerged as the industry's largest producer of official concert posters, prints & music related fine art. If you've attended a concert in recent years, chances are you've seen one of our posters.
Collectionzz recently secured the prestigious opportunity to produce the event posters for Dead & Company's Las Vegas residency at the Sphere, a testament to our expertise in the music memorabilia space.
